Apparel & Technical Design
A private client approached me to develop a four-piece essentials collection consisting of a T-shirt, a mock-neck long sleeve, a button-down shirt, and a hoodie inspired by Obi-Wan Kenobi’s iconic oversized silhouette. The project required full technical development, pattern drafting, sample construction, and the creation of production-ready tech packs for manufacturer handoff.
I drafted all patterns from scratch and produced initial samples for each garment. The technical process included flat sketch development, detailed construction notes, and a complete specification package for each style. One round of fit revisions was completed, most notably adjusting the button-down’s shoulders, which were initially too tight. Material sourcing presented a minor challenge, especially for the heavyweight hoodie fabric during summer months, but alternate sample materials were secured to maintain the timeline.
The hoodie became the standout piece of the collection with its oversized, draped silhouette, inspired by cinematic costuming but adapted for everyday wear. Patterning this garment was the most technical aspect of the project, requiring an understanding of volume, proportion, and movement.
Throughout the development process, I provided the client with production guidance, including email communication templates and instructions for working with their pattern grader. The final deliverables included finalized tech packs, refined patterns, production-ready files, and finished samples. The client approved all final samples and is currently preparing for next steps in manufacturing.
This project demonstrates a full end-to-end apparel development workflow, combining technical design precision, problem-solving, and hands-on construction.
